Parents and Students:
We're almost there! Only three weeks left. I am posting my lesson plans for the remainder of the year. Remember in each subject, there are three weeks of work for Mondays through Thursdays, Friday will be a catch up day. Don't try to do everything in a week! Please make sure you are complete math assignments on Khan Academy this week before you move on to milestones review practice. Freckle will still have adaptive ELA and Word Study. See the learning plans for the next three weeks below: You will need to log in to Clever each day before clicking on any of the Freckle links listed in the assignments below. You will not need a class code if you log in this way. Below is a link to the Clever page for log-in help. It gives directions on how to log in and select websites that students can use for online practice. http://duewestlearningcommons.weebly.com/logins.html
| Please work towards the goal of spending 45 minutes on math, 45 minutes on language arts, and 30 minutes on social studies or science.
Once you have completed the adaptive placement tests, move on to adaptive practice. |
Due West Mission: Inspire. Challenge. Achieve. Due West Vision: A school that is preparing young leaders for future success. |
Please work towards the daily goal of spending 45 minutes on math, 45 minutes on language arts, and 30 minutes on social studies or science.
"There has to be this pioneer, the individual who has the courage, the ambition to overcome the obstacles that always develop when one tries to do something worthwhile, especially when it is new and different.”

Mrs. Torch's Class Information
Attendance: Attendance is very important! The tardy bell rings at 7:50 AM, if students arrive after 7:50, they will be tardy. If your student is absent, please send in a parent note about the absence.
Parent Communication: Agendas are sent home for parents to initial daily. It is a great communication tool between home and school. Parents, please sign up for Seesaw Family App with the code sent home with your student as soon as possible. We will post pictures, videos, work samples, assignments, and reminders on the app. Thursday folders will contain information from the school and graded papers. Please review and remove papers in the folder and return on Fridays.

Transportation: You may write a note & send it to school with your child to let the school know how your child is going home if it is different from what you have already told your child's teacher at Meet & Greet. If you need to make a change after your child has left for school, then transportation changes must go through the front office. Please do not email changes to teachers. Email changes to [email protected], and [email protected]. The office staff will notify teachers of changes you make. Changes will not be accepted after 1:45 pm.
Snack: Please send in water only to drink and a healthy snack without nuts if you would like to send a snack to fuel their brains.
Please do not send chips, cookies, or other high sugar items for daily snack.

Grades: This year students will receive letter grades which represent the average of all graded work for each quarter.
Please keep in mind that getting all 2's and 3's on a third grade rubric does not equate to all A's and B's on the 4th grade scale.

Grading Scale-
I encourage all parents to sign up for the ParentVue app to have access to your child's grades. This is an excellent app to have on your phone. You can see your child's grades using ParentVue app or by clicking on the link: https://parentvue.cobbk12.org/
Homework: Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Students should be able to complete homework independently. If they are not independent, please send a note with the homework and we will review the concept together. I believe that homework should not be a cause of tears or stress for students or parents. I am happy to help students review homework questions or concepts from 7:15-7:45 each morning. Students should also read for at least 20 minutes nightly and practice their spelling words.
Math Readiness: If students have not yet mastered basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts using effective strategies or from memory, they should be working toward automaticity as soon as possible. There are several online resources and games on the resources and math pages. Also, there is a downloadable Thinking Strategies page to help learn basic facts on the parent resources page.
Forty Book Challenge: Students are challenged to read 40 (or more) self-selected books on their independent reading level this year during class time and for nightly independent reading at home. The book challenge encourages students to read chapter books from a wide variety of genres. The students will be responsible for keeping track of their completed books and genres. The students will complete various reading responses at school from their independent reading at home. No more parent initials on daily reading logs! They should read at least 10 books per quarter to keep them on track and to be eligible for our quarterly reading celebrations. You can check out the reading levels of books on http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizard/
Field Trips: We will be attending at least a couple of field trips this year: Safety Village, and the Cobb County Youth Museum. Our class needs 1-2 parent volunteers for the Safety Village in September. Please let me know if you are interested in being a chaperon for any of our field trips this year.
